What are cookies?
Cookies are small files which are stored on a user's computer. They are designed to hold a modest amount of data specific to a particular client and website, and can be accessed either by the web server or the client computer. This allows us to deliver a page tailored to a particular user, or the page itself can contain some script which is aware of the data in the cookie and so is able to carry information from one visit to the website to the next.
Each cookie is effectively a small lookup table containing pairs of (key, data) values - for example (firstname, John) (lastname, Smith). Once the cookie has been read by the code on the server or client computer, the data can be retrieved and used to customise the web page appropriately.
How do we use them?
Cookies make it easier for you to maintain your preferences on the website, such as login ID
By seeing how you use the website we can tailor the website around your preferences and measure usability.
You can, should you choose, disable all cookies in your browser and delete all cookies currently stored on your computer. However, this will prevent the website from functioning correctly. You can also turn off just the analytics cookies and 3rd party cookies, as these will not prevent the website from functioning correctly. You can find out how to do this in the sections below called “Analytics cookies” and “3rd Party cookies”.
